Joy and Luke are Engaged!!!

So a while ago, I blogged about how I was having a beautiful day despite the weather. I was going to post an explanation shortly after but I thought that it would simply not be as interesting without pictures, so I held off on the news. What made me so happy was that I have been meeting with various couples looking for a photographer to document their special day. As a result, I had my first booking!

Whether is was over the phone or email, Joy and Luke sounded very enthusiastic and excited to talk about their wedding. Breakfast at Chez Cora was the setting for our first meet. Over pancakes, eggs and grapefruit juice, Joy and Luke divulged the story of how they met, how Luke proposed and their wedding plans. I knew right there and then that I wanted to document their love and their wedding.

Since they commissioned me to document their wedding we have been bumping into each other quite frequently and randomly! Whether it was on subway, or grabbing bubble tea at Pacific Mall, we keep seeing each other! If I did not know better, I would think they were stalkers…just kiddin’.

I recently photographed their engagement session at the Distillery District and had an awesome time. Here are just a few favorites.

Joy, Luke, you guys are awesome and I can’t wait for their upcoming wedding in August!

Rain, thunder, appreciation…

I am suppose to be shooting outdoor stock today. The forecast called for some rain, thunder showers, fuzzies with a high of 24 degrees celcius. Allow me to explain…When I woke up this morning, I received a pleasant email from Jeff that made me feel warm and fuzzy inside (common…it happens to the best of us). It was short and sweet but very much appreciated.

My boss always says that we live “just in time lives”. We catch the bus…just in time. We get to work….just in time. We meet deadlines…just in time. Between all the responsibilities we have, it’s generally hard to find time to enjoy life with family, friends and loved ones. Just yesterday, I found myself editing on the subway of all places. Generally this slice of time is reserved for me to take a little nap or catch up with Lucy, but lately there is just so much to do. I am not complaining here, what I am trying to say is thank you. People generally have so much to do and so little time that I really really really appreciate Jeff’s email. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to send your thanks and appreciation. You guys are great!

Erin and Jeff are Married!

What a busy couple of weeks!!! As you may have noticed I have neglected my blog and I am sorry. However, I have been busy shooting and editing so there will be a surge of incoming posts as I play catch up. Since my last post, I have had a couple of firsts that in a way has altered and helped me develop my style as a photographer. For instance, a couple of weeks ago (July 4th, 2009), it was my first time shooting as a principle photographer on behalf of Margaret…technically that is partially true…as I was the principal photographer on Margaret’s behalf for Polly and Tommy’s wedding last October. Although I carried similar responsibilities, it was still an eye opening experience. It was just, different…as the principle photographer, you need to see things differently, look for good light and for every time the shutter is pressed, you need to know exactly why you are making the image and how it will be used. Lastly, as a principal photographer, you really need to trust your second photographer. In many instances, I caught myself wearing the hat of the second photographer in addition to the principal photographer even though I had Lucy to help me out as a second shooter. I could not help it. I think it’s really because I like catching the candid moments.

Furthermore, I was reminded of the importance of an engagement shoot. Because I was shooting this on behalf of Margaret, I did not have the luxury of really getting to know Erin and Jeff and how they would react in front of my camera. We had to try a few things and learned about each other on the fly which was challenging, but I think I did succeed in the end as they were comfortable with me and were willing to just do what I asked…within reason of course. This is so important  to getting great pictures. In any case, I was blessed with great weather, Lucy to assist me and of course, a great couple to work with. Congrats Erin and Jeff, thank you for letting me share your special day with you. Here are a couple of my favorites.
