Thought that I would lure you in with one of my shiny ring shots before having you read about Jaci and Lawrence’s wedding which I assisted Ron with on September 13, 2008. The Double Tree Hotel by the airport was the venue for the majority of the wedding, the getting ready photos, the ceremony and the reception which was exceptionally nice.
This is one of my favorites of the day. So we were waiting for the elevator, it was an overcast kind of day and a ton of light was spilling through those windows so I needed to take advantage of the situation. I did not want to disrupt the schedule but I knew that I would regret it if I did not take the shot. Ron was cool and let me do my own thing which was awesome. Setting up for this, I must say that I was a little impatient and excited. Any second the doors to the elevators could open so every moment counted. This put my knowledge of camera settings and metering to the test and although technically there are things I could have improved (there is always room for improvement), I am happy I got this shot.

I love how Jaci was looking at Lawrence. The bridesmaid in the back is Lawrence’s sister and she was tearing which was so sweet. If I recall correctly this was right before Lawrence uttered those two little words………..
…..i do.
This was fun and unconventional. For the creatives, Ron took the wedding party to Woodbine Centre & Fantasy Fair. I remember I used to come here as a kid and it was the greatest mall ever! It had a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round and tons of other cool rides. This is also another type of venue I strongly suggest brides to consider as it brings something fresh and dynamic that translates well for photos and you can relax and just be a kid again!

Busy busy busy….Yes, I say this pretty much every time I post but it’s true. The good thing is that I am shooting more and more and learning lots. The bad thing is that I simply don’t have enough time to edit and post the photos here for your viewing pleasure. I am in the process of trying to streamline everything from the moment I put the camera down, to archiving and to posting. I think it’s important to do this in the very beginning no matter how much time it takes because it will benefit me later on in that it will make me more efficient and work quicker. However, with this task, it demands that I invest a big chunk of money on gear, such as larger hard drives, backup drives, a new computer (mine is somewhat ancient)…the list goes on…If you are a photographer, I would not mind your feedback or advice though, send me an email or leave me a comment.
Enough about me…Last week Lucy and I made some time to photograph some gyoza’s. I love gyoza’s, they are so easy to make and taste so good! It’s a very versatile “food” to work with! You can have it in soup, sans soup, pan fried, deep fried…I am starting to sound like Bubba from Forest Gump when he talks about shrimp.
Bubba: Anyway, like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that’s about it.
if you still don’t know what I am talking about. Check the video.
Almost forgot…the gyoza pictures!

i think these are not bad but does not really tell a story. It is what it is, should add some extra props next time. Yes…we ate the props after. om nom nom nom

Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure to shoot along side Joee and Eugene at April and Glenn’s wedding. It was the first wedding of the season and the weather could not be more perfect. Again, I ideally wanted to finish posting all my 2008 work before posting current ones but this is still fresh and don’t want to keep you waiting so…enjoy!

after the ceremony, we were off to the Humber Bay Bridges which is an awesome location to shoot. Especially because the weather was so nice.

I personally love the shot of the Humber Bay Bridge. I am inclined to go back and make a series and print it out. As a photographer, one is always being challenged by the environment in which they are shooting. It could be lighting, it could be weird backgrounds. To overcome these challenges you just need to be constantly aware of your surroundings and how you can use them to get a different point of view. Joee, being the creative photographer he is scaled this massive rock, trust me, it’s bigger in person, to get the following shot below.
Of course no wedding would be complete without the rings!

At the end of the night, Joee wanted to give the new couple a little surprise. During the reception, he uploaded a sample of the day’s photos edited and whipped up a slideshow for April and Glenn. I saw how hard he was working but seeing how happy April looked when viewing the slideshow, I knew that it was worth the effort.
Congrats April and Glenn!
